The Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997 (ASFA) is expected to have a profound impact on children and families the child welfare system serves. This article provides information about Indiana’s experience in implementing ASFA, including policy decisions made by the legislative and executive branches of government and the involvement of the judiciary. A multidisciplinary task force addressed training and program needs for positive implementation. Initial outcomes for Indiana children and remaining challenges are discussed.Downloads
